Jesus was a failure as I see it, and for two good reasons.
(1) If he wanted to start a new religion, he should have taken a break and written his own Gospel.
No one really can do more than guess at who Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were. But they wrote conflicting Gospels, it seems.
And not a one of them bothered to get dates right. The least they could do was to write down the day and month of Jesus' birth.
Shepherds do not tend their flocks around Bethlehem in December, there is insufficient forage.
(2) Jesus won a lot of popularity by performing miracles: there were no Marvel universe or Spiderverse to wow them with. He brought Lazarus back from the dead, but he just did that ONCE. How many times did Harry Houdini escape from submerged trunks? If you want to wow the crowds, you are going to have to do more than pull one bunny from a hat or saw more than none women in half.
He could have done a lot of good resurrecting the deceased.
But he just did this once. If you missed it, sorry, it was like Woodstock, you are **** outta luck.
Of course, rising from the dead was his major miracle, even though he only stayed dead for a weekend. He could have done it a least a couple more times if he really wanted to impress the people. Remember that Caesar Augustus claimed that he was immortal, and people for some weird reason believed it.
And then there is the confusion about whether Jesus was God. It did not help at all when he said that he did not know when he would be coming back, but that God the Father did. Lots of confusion there.
